I moved to Glenmont, just north on Georgia, in the summer of 1967 and hence have spent a lot of time in Wheaton. Restaurants, bars and night clubs abound in Wheaton, yet some veritable institutions of food and beverage are now gone.
The Anchor Inn Seafood Restaurant was Wheaton's signature restaurant, but along with Hunter's over on University Blvd East and Barnaby's across the street, the Hula Hut over where the Wheaton Metro is now located and Ferdinand's over on Fern St., all are gone... And not to forget the Little Tavern, of which nothing is left but it's sign repurposed into the service of Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center
