Ohio lies within the undisputed "Heartland of America" and plays a central role in the history of manufacturing and industry in America, being both the "Birthplace of Aviation" (as well as the birthplace of the Wright Brothers) and location of many central players in the history and development of the US Steel Industry.
The Abolitionist John Brown, who would spur the nation onward toward the Civil War, spent much of his life in Ohio, as "The John Brown House" in Akron, Ohio will attest, and the "Underground Railroad" which spirited fugitive slaves to the freedom of Canada found it's American terminus at Cleveland,and it was Cleveland, Ohio disc jockey Alan Freed who couined the expression "Rock and Roll" hence the location of "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" in Cleveland,Ohio.
