The Germantown of today bears little resemblance to the Germantown to which I moved in the summer of 1968. The community was centered around the train station, with it's structure designed by the B&O RR architect Ephriam Francis Baldwin, the Germantown Bank, and a long gone general store, lost to fire and once situated across the street from the train station and beside the Bank.
This rural farming community of about 1000 people has witnessed exponential growth in the last couple of decades, and is now one of the largest population centers in Maryland.
