and developed by New Deal U.S. Treasurer William Alexander Julian, the Silver Spring Shopping Center incorporated both a movie theatre and then new concept of an automobile parking lot into it's design.
This center is of special personal interest as I was
employed by the Wine and Cheese Fair, once located in the space presently occupied by Panera Bread, in 1984 and witnessed first hand the contentious designation of the Silver Spring Shopping Center as
a protected historic site and the destruction which ensued...
